West Coast Utilities Join Forces in Support of Electrifying I-5

Oregon-based electric utilities Portland General Electric and Pacific Power – along with other utilities up and down the west coast – recently announced the results from a study of how to make I-5 friendly for electric freight trucks.

The study, the West Coast Clean Transit Corridor Initiative, recommends adding electric vehicle charging for freight haulers and delivery trucks at 50-mile intervals along Interstate 5 and adjoining highways, and highlights the potential for economic growth and a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The study was commissioned by nine electric utilities and two agencies representing more than two dozen municipal utilities.
