Offer Your Two Cents on Oregon’s EV Charging Infrastructure Proposal – Comments Due July 11!
Oregon Department of Environmental Quality wants to hear from you!
DEQ, in partnership with the Oregon Department of Transportation, the Oregon Department of Energy, and the Oregon Health Authority’s Public Health Division, is requesting public comments on a proposal to use a portion of Oregon’s share of the Volkswagen diesel settlement to support state efforts to electrify the transportation sector.
The VW Settlement decree allows up to 15 percent of each state’s allocation – for Oregon, that’s approximately $10.9 million – to be used to develop and maintain EV charging stations. Oregon’s EV Infrastructure Proposal offers strategies for how that funding could be used to boost charging infrastructure and support EV adoption.
The proposal has three action areas: updating the West Coast Electric Highway to extend usage; increasing charger access at multi-unit dwellings; and filling gaps in the charging network with DC fast chargers. DEQ’s website has more detailed information, plus thought-provoking questions to consider as you offer your comments.
Throughout this public comment period, DEQ will gather input from Oregonians to inform the Oregon Legislature as it weighs funding decisions. The Legislature is responsible for approving how VW Settlement funds are spent in Oregon.
