$15M for EV Charging Infrastructure Coming to NW Oregon
The City of Tualatin will receive $15 million through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grant Program to bring publicly accessible electric vehicle charging infrastructure to the region. The funding will bring up to 500 Level 2 chargers at a minimum of 125 unique sites across 17 different cities including Beaverton, Forest Grove, Gresham, Hillsboro, King City, Lake Oswego, McMinnville, Milwaukie, Newberg, Oregon City, Portland, Salem, Sherwood, Tigard, Woodburn, and Wood Village. The award was the result of a collaborative effort between the City of Tualatin, Forth, PGE and the 16 other participating cities.
The new infrastructure will bring chargers to people with low- and moderate-incomes across NW Oregon, primarily serving residents who do not currently have access to at-home charging. The project will focus on providing publicly accessible chargers at affordable multifamily housing properties and public facilities, such as libraries, parks and community centers – helping to scale up the nation’s charging network, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and address gaps in access.
The Biden-Harris administration’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act provides $2.5 billion over five years for the CFI program to strategically deploy EV charging and other alternative fueling infrastructure projects in publicly accessible locations, including both urban and rural areas, particularly in underserved and disadvantaged communities.
